Reese Witherspoon began seriously pursuing her acting career shortly after attending Stanford University. Early successes were with films like Pleasantville, Election and Legally Blonde. But it was her performance in the role of Elle Woods in Legally Blonde's box office smash that was the start of her career. Her role as Elle Woods in Walk the Line earned her an Academy Award nomination in 2005. In addition to her acting career she is an excellent painter, and has shown her work in a number of galleries.
